On 5th July 2024, following the appointment of Angela Rayner as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, TPI along with the British Property Federation, Federation of Private Residents Association, Propertymark, and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors sent a joint letter to congratulate her and express their support.

The letter emphasises their shared commitment to improving housing standards, highlighting the significant impact of good housing on health, social cohesion, education, crime rates, and the economy. They called for:

  • A Code of Practice for residential agency workers.
  • Mandatory qualifications and competence standards.
  • Regulation of property agents according to these standards.

The organisations referenced Lord Best’s framework for regulation (RoPA) and requested an early meeting with Angela Rayner to discuss the new Government’s proposals, expressing their readiness to support effective regulation.
