The UK is continuing to battle it's way through the building safety crisis - Government have made some moves in the right direction, yet we are still finding many issues that are not being addressed.

The building safety crisis is global and other countries have done things differently. We have recorded an IRPM Chat with Ted Baillieu, former Premier of Victoria from 2010 to 2013. Ted was the co-chair of the Victorian Government’s Cladding Task Force - the same force that placed 'public safety' first when dealing with its building safety crisis and has successfully managed to remediate many buildings in Victoria, ensuring the safety of the public is paramount.

The key points Ted makes within his presentation, which was originally showcased at the Leasehold APPG on the 15th of July 2021, were the absolute importance of identifying the most at risk buildings first for government to fund first and fight later over responsibility, and to ensure that efforts to sort the crisis are bipartisan. The focus for the team was to put aside any political, financial and internal disagreements and place the resident and public safety at the heart of their approach.

Recorded on 18th August 2021.
